Truck Steps

One of the challenges a pickup truck can present is how do you get high enough to get good access to the hood and bed, especially when it is a taller four-wheel-drive model?

The simple solution is to use a step or stool to step up higher next to the truck. I have often used old plastic 5 gallon buckets with a lid on them or plastic milk crates turned upside down as a step. The problem with these are the buckets can easily tip over and the crates can break so they aren’t as safe.

Here are some items that help you gain better access under the hood of your truck or to your truck bed or SUV roof.

This truck tire step. This step is super handy as it just unfolds and can quickly be hung from any tire on your truck. It allows you to step right up on the side of your truck next to whatever tire you choose to hang it on. This allows you to more easily access your truck bed from the back tires or the roof rack if you are driving an SUV. If you hang it on the front tires, you can access deeper into and under the hood of your truck for maintenance, repairs, or any other work. It also makes it easier to wash your windshield or other parts of your truck. It can fold up fairly flat to store under or behind your truck’s seat so you can have it with you wherever you go.

This receiver hitch step that doubles as a tow strap mount. This hitch step makes good use out of your receiver when you aren’t towing a trailer. It makes for a great step to access the back your truck bed without opening the tailgate. The ridged tread pattern is designed to be non-slip to help you with traction so you don’t slip off in wet or snowy conditions. Additionally, it also makes a very solid mount to attach your tow strap to when you need to pull another truck out of the mud or snow. It could even be hooked to by your buddy’s rig to pull you out if you happen to get stuck.
