Towing & Recovery

When towing, I like to have hitches that are versatile and easy to use. I also want to always have the right sized ball on board with me so that I don’t get stuck going to hook up a trailer and realize I’ll have to go back to the house or the store to get the other sized ball. That’s just a pain and takes a lot of extra time. There are also plenty of times that I find myself needing pull out a stuck vehicle or a broken-down car and I always want to have what I need for that.

Here is a list of items that will help make your life easier if you tow many trailers or if you ever help tow your friends when they break down or are stuck in the mud or snow.

This adjustable tri-ball hitch. A hitch like this is so versatile as it provides you with three of the most common ball sizes (1 7/8″, 2″, & 2 5/16″) and can adjust anywhere from a 7 inch drop to a 7.5 inch rise below or above the receiver. There will be so many trailers that this hitch will work for and you only have to carry one hitch around instead of 3 or more of them. If you want a greaseless hitch that is nearly as versatile and is more affordable, this one is another good option.

This nifty 5th wheel hitch that hooks onto a gooseneck ball. This hitch is lightweight but super strong making it easy to install or remove from your truck quickly. It can even be installed or removed by one person because it isn’t so heavy like some other 5th wheel hitches. My favorite thing is that it uses a greaseless coupler so it doesn’t make a mess in your truck bed or on you or your clothes. It makes your 5th wheel connection ride on a ball so it allows your trailer to articulate more when backing it in over uneven terrain.

This receiver hitch step that doubles as a tow strap mount. This hitch step makes good use out of your receiver when you aren’t towing a trailer. Not only does it provide a great step for accessing the rear of your truck bed, it also makes a very solid mount to attach your tow strap to when you need to pull another truck out of the mud. Heck, it could even be used to pull you out of the mud if you get stuck. The ridged tread pattern helps you with traction so you don’t slip off as easily in wet or snowy conditions.
